Chapter book design
When designing a chapter book, there’s more text and less illustrations, so the design of the text and page elements play an important role.
In Blizzards Adventures, there are “Food for Thought” questions at the end of each chapter, so I added a decorative border that matched Blizzard’s signature bandana. I also decorated the chapter numbers with a very simple sketch of Blizzard and his bandana.
Here is the very first sketch for Blizzard, based off of a photo of the real Blizzard having his favorite breakfast. I also made sketches to show how the interior would be designed.

Blizzard is an eight year old boy, who happens to be a travel pillow. He starts off self-centered and willful, but his life changes forever when he is adopted by a wise, older couple who introduce him to the love of Jesus. Through camping trips, town explorations, and daily adventures, Blizzard learns valuable lessons from the Holy Bible and his grandparents.

Blizzard starts his second book right where the first one left off. Here he shares more of the trials, tribulations and triumphs of an eight year old boy. Blizzy loves his lord Jesus, his family and his friends. Though he has problems and failures at times, he loves to share the experiences and lessons he has learned, so that others can benefit.
